National Occupational Standards
Semta is responsible for developing and maintaining the National
Occupational Standards in the science, engineering and
manufacturing technologies sectors.
Semta works closely with industry to identify and define the
skills and knowledge requirements for the various occupations,
across the different performance levels, within the sector.
The National Occupational Standards have a number of uses,
including recruitment, appraisal, promotion, identifying training
needs, succession planning etc, but their main use is for the
development of nationally recognised qualifications such as
National or Scottish Vocational Qualifications (N/SVQ’s)
The standards are available free of charge
