New Shorter Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) to boost information exchange

Summary

As of July 1st 2009, UK business and third sector organisations are able to benefit from modifications to an existing support programme that has been running for nearly 35 years. A funded programme of shorter KTPs, which enable effective collaboration between business, third sector organisations and academia, is being launched nationally by the Technology Strategy Board. The shorter KTP programme aims to offer organisations the opportunity to undertake shorter-term projects. It is designed to be flexible and act as a stepping-stone for businesses that have not worked with higher/further education institutions before. The shorter KTP should play a key role in enabling small businesses to explore benefits of collaboration. Since 1975, the KTP programme has helped over 5,000 organisations pursue strategic development objectives. Shorter KTPs should enhance the existing activity of business support and innovation, and should increase competitiveness, productivity and performance through exploitation of knowledge from the UK’s knowledge base. For more information, see the press notice from the Technology Strategy Board here: http://www.innovateuk.org/content/news/press-release-shorter-knowledge-transfer-partnersh.ashx

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships provide companies and academia with real opportunities to make the most of their intellectual and capital resources. We urge companies across science and engineering to consider how the KTP scheme might benefit them.
