The Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies

Select Committee e-forum Launched for UK Engineering Employers (UK)

Summary

The Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Select Committee has launched an online e-forum for engineering employers in the UK to contribute to their ongoing inquiry into engineering.  The e-forum is a quick and easy way to share your views with the Select Committee and the wider public.  The current questions for debate are:

  • What one thing could the Government do to help engineering employers?
  • What are the biggest challenges and opportunities facing engineering companies?
  • How easy is it to recruit the engineering staff you need?
  • Are you optimistic about the future of engineering in the UK?

The e-forum can be accessed via the Select Committee website here, and the consultation will last until 24th October 2008.

Semta View

Semta is continuing to provide evidence to the ongoing engineering inquiry.  Lynn Tomkins appeared before the Committee in May, and Semta have just submitted additional evidence to their sub-inquiry into “engineering and government”.

Semta represents the view of our employers across government and the media.  If you are an employer in the science, engineering, or manufacturing technology sectors, we welcome your views at policy@semta.org.uk
