Biography - Lynn Tomkins

Lynn Tomkins is Semta’s UK Operations Director and is responsible for employer relationships at a sectoral and regional level with the aim of increasing employer’s skills ambition to stay competitive.

In her role Lynn strives to ensure the skills priorities and needs of employers in the Aerospace, Automotive, Bioscience, Electronics, Marine, Metals, Mechanical and Electrical sectors are met locally, regionally, nationally and across the UK.

Recently, Lynn:

  • Developed a successful Employer Engagement Strategy to ensure engagement with the sector which comprises 74,500 employers and 2 Million employees.
  • Negotiated and agreed the first Sector Compact signed by the Secretary of State and agreed protocols with the Department for Innovation Universities and Schools, the Learning and Skills Council and the Regional Development Agencies.
  • Took the lead for Semta in achieving relicencing as a sector skills council.  The review confirmed Semta’s status as a well run organization with an Employer led offer incorporating employer designed products and services and clear measurement of results and impact.
  • Established and led the first Government Sector Skills Agreements between UK Governments, employers, key agencies and regional and national partners and stakeholders.  This was launched at No. 11 Downing Street in May 2005 for the aerospace, automotive and electronics sectors.
