Biography - Allister Duncan
Allister Duncan was appointed as Finance
Director of Semta in summer 2008. He is now Director of
Finance and IT and responsible for both the central
Finance and facilities and IT function based at Head
Office in Watford. In his current role he also has overall
responsibility for the financial strategic and operational
management of the organisation and IT services.
Prior to working at Semta, Allister worked in
a variety of industries between 1981 and 1991, having Financial
Controller roles in three different organisations.
Initially he worked in South Wales before moving to London in
1983. In 1991 Allister had a career change and went to work
as Project Manager for the Salvation Army, running a Homelessness
Outreach team in central London. Following on from this, he
worked for Barnet and Essex Education Authorities before becoming
Financial Controller, then Finance Director, of the Royal College
of Nursing. He also joined The Standards Board for England as
Head of Corporate Services in 2003.
Allister graduated from Birmingham University
in 1980 with an Honours degree in Commerce. He then went on
to take the CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants)
exams between 1982 and 1984 and became an Associate member in
1986. Allister was born and brought up in Hereford and is
married with three children.
Allister enjoys watching most sports. He
supports Arsenal and Hereford United. He enjoys playing golf
and football. He is Treasurer of his children’s school,
Parent Teacher Association and the Baptist Church that he is a
member of. He also likes to read, watch films, general
knowledge quizzes and dining.
