Viv Gillespie - Principal of City College Plymouth
Currently Principal at City College Plymouth, a business
employing 850 people. Viv has spent 16 years in the further
education sector, holding a wide range of responsibilities, before
becoming Principal. She has a degree in Business and Management in
addition to educational qualifications.
City College Plymouth is firmly externally-focused and has links
and relationships with over 1000 businesses in the surrounding
area. These employers train with the College, sit on the Governing
Body, advise on steering groups etc. Since coming to the area, Viv
has fully engaged in the economic agenda. She became a Director of
Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and Industry in April 2007. She chairs
the Association of Colleges’ South West College Profile Group and
is a member of the National Association of Colleges’ Engineering
and Manufacturing Sector Skills Group and the National Skills
Academy for the Creative Industries. She also holds regional roles
as World Skills Champion and as an Apprenticeship Champion.
Viv is particularly keen to promote STEM skills to young people
and to develop training and education to meet the needs of those
industries that can add value to the country’s economy.
